Begin with the installation environment
An indoor decorative fixture, an outdoor floodlight and a commercial office luminaire must not share one generic specification. State mounting method, power supply, lumens, color temperature, CRI, dimming, beam angle, ambient conditions and required ingress protection. Where lighting is part of a project, request the consultant's approved schedule and drawings.
Do not accept a certificate without checking scope
EU importers should verify current obligations for electrical and electromagnetic compatibility, relevant CE documentation, restrictions on substances and product information as applicable. Confirm that test reports and declarations cover the exact model, driver and configuration being purchased. Assess the manufacturer's ability to provide traceability and technical documentation.
Validate performance in samples
Obtain photometric reports and operating samples. Compare measured output, flicker, temperature management, driver sound, color consistency and physical finishing. For exterior units, inspect sealing and mounting hardware. Ask about driver replacement, warranty handling and spare components in the destination market.
Model fulfillment into the EU
Agree who owns customs clearance, VAT treatment, packaging disposal obligations and final delivery. If stock enters via Rotterdam for onward sale in Germany, ensure the compliance plan covers the real European market. Include product breakage, carton dimensions, warehouse labeling and replenishment lead time in total cost.
Use a model-level sourcing request
Send a specification schedule, drawings, target annual quantities, applicable approvals, intended EU destinations and required quality evidence. TAVOXE can help discuss manufacturer matching and sample coordination without promising certification on a manufacturer's behalf.
